Thou Shall Not Scatter It!

What is the usefulness of a scattered broom to a dirty floor? Can the scattered broom sweep the dirty floor?  Not in the least! Until the broomsticks are gathered and bundled, they are as useless as anything as much as the room is concerned.

Too many people today scatter their energies; they try to do too many different things in too many different directions.

– Bernard Baruch

How many wonderful dreams have been shattered because the dreamers’ energies were scattered! Are you not treading the same path?

It has been said, and it is true, that the sun’s energy warms the world. But when you focus it through a magnifying glass it can start a fire. It is the same with your energies. Little wonder Denis Waitley said: “One of the best ways we can get the most from the energy we have is to focus it.”

When your energies are scattered, they achieve little or no result. But when you direct your scattered energies into one powerful channel, there’s no limit to what you can achieve.

That’s the force of focus! “No steam or gas drives anything until it is confined,” said Harry Emerson Fosdick, “No life ever grows great until it is focused, dedicated and disciplined.” With focus, we can achieve great feats with our lives.

Trying to do too many different things at a time or trying to become virtually everything is pointless; it is a sheer waste of time and energy. Focus is the name of the game when it comes to maximum achievement.

“The man who succeeds above his fellows is the one who early in life clearly discerns his object, and towards that object habitually directs his powers.” (Earl Nightingale).  Many people are stranded in the journey of life because they lack focus.  They lack the power to follow through on dreams that are specific and realistic.  All they do is to hop from one thing to another.

Harry A. Overstreet has rightly said: “The immature mind hops from one thing to another; the mature mind seeks to follow through.” To achieve success, you have to be mature.  Being mature, in this context, means having the ability and willingness to follow through on your dreams without permitting any form of distractions to derail or deter you.

One of the powerful forces on earth is the force of focus. No wonder the sun’s rays do not burn until brought to a focus. To paraphrase the words of Norman Vincent Peale,  when every physical and mental resource is focused, one’s power to solve a problem or to achieve a dream multiplies tremendously. The force of focus works wonders.

Friend, whatever dream or vision you have, remain focused and right on track; you will get to your desired destination.  Be like tennis players: they focus intensely and specifically on what they’re doing at the moment. They know that being focused is essential to their success and you can’t take your eye off the ball.

You too must focus intensely and specifically on your dream, if you want to achieve meaningful results.  Let what you want to achieve become a consuming obsession, and the possession of it will not only be probable, but possible! Focus all your energies on your dream like a goalkeeper who is set to catch a penalty shoot-out: he focuses his mind and energy on the ball.

If you want to achieve all that you are capable of achieving, learn to gather your energies; don’t scatter!

Most people have no idea of the giant capacity we can immediately command when we focus all our resources on mastering a single area of our lives.  Controlled focus is like a laser beam that can cut through anything that seems to be stopping you… one reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power.

– Anthony Robbins, Awaken the Giant Within
