Start Small to Stand Tall

By Adeleke Adeite

A man with a big dream who learns to start small
Will beyond any shadow of doubt stand tall.
One brick at a time becomes a haughty hall;
Small seeds with time become trees so great and tall.

If a man cannot start-up with a seemingly feeble flame,
I doubt if he can come up with the fire of fame.
The stadium of stardom was built by simple deeds;
Get started or get stranded at the gate of greed.

The steps on the ladder of legacies start from the bottom;
Those who do not start from there remain in thraldom.
Empty vessels still have space to get pregnant;
Start with the insignificant and you will get… important.

The oldest man was once a crawler and a suckling.
Do not quit even if your flowers are falling.
Listen to the roars of reason, start with that little brick;
Success is born out of tender treasures and not tall tricks.

No matter how big, a book starts from chapter one;
Is that not a lesson on getting great things done?
Nothing big started big, not even the Pyramids of Egypt,
Small things end great when done with the right spirit.

A Psalm of Life

By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Tell me not in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou are, to dust thou returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each tomorrow
Find us farther than today.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.

In the world’s broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act, – act in the living Present!
Heart within, and God o’erhead!

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sand of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o’er life’s solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us then be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.

The Exciting Thrill of Work

By Paul J. Meyer

Work is PURE JOY!

Work polishes silver and gold . . .it refines character.
Work rows “Life’s Boat” upstream.
Work weeds the garden and the mind,
Work lifts weights and spirits,
Work overcomes adversity and defeat,
Work is an exciting thrill!
Work is the action in motivation.
Work is the breath of life.
Work is the reward for being alive.
Work mines coal from the earth and uncovers diamonds!
Work moves the wings that put the eagles high in the air.
Work brings reality to the dreams of inventors.
Work – intelligent work – has made America the most prosperous nation in the world.
Work, when applied toward a meaningful goal, develops human potential.

It is work that has:

Bridged the chasms . . .
Tunneled the mountains . . .
Placed the giant communication cables on the bottom of the sea . . .
Built highways over plains and deserts…
Lifted space ships to the moon . . .
Built our factories . . .
Erected our schools and hospitals, and . . .
Made the scientific discoveries that have made our lives easier and happier.

Work is a way of putting your stamp on what you do – it is your personality – your own uniqueness.

The inspiration created by your work breathes your spirit into each hour of the day.

Only through your work can you contribute to human progress.

James W. Elliott said, “Work is life, and good work is good life.”

Work is love in action.

Work, supported by a healthy self-image and a positive mental attitude, multiplies all future achievement.

The Choir of our Choices

By Adeleke Adeite

We did not choose the time and terrain we were born,
In palace or pantry, in the noon or in the morn.
We did not pick our guardian and gender;
We got them without bid  or tender.

How we were bred, we did not bargain;
In garden or ghetto, with pleasure or pain.
We do not, only some would decide when to die,
We are tamed by a tender and timely tie.

All that is given to us is how we would live,
With our brains to buy what we would believe.
What we hear, what we say; our yes or no,
Where we go, what we know how to sow.

In love or loss, in the  lights that we look,
In beauty or brains…in the brooks of book.
We are chained to a choir of choices,
Sold to our souls’ vile or virtuous voices.

In the creeds we crave and the norms we neglect,
The life we live and the rights we respect.
We decide our own wrongs and rights,
And they decide where we will sleep at night!

First man fighting vs last man standing

By Adeleke Adeite

It doesn’t matter if you are living in a humble hut;
Just make sure it is built on the hills of honour.

It doesn’t matter if you are not impressing others;
Just makes sure you are expressing beyond borders.

It doesn’t matter if your purse is not pompous;
Just make sure your passion and purpose is not porous.

It doesn’t matter if your past was painful,
Just make your present peaceful and your prospect powerful.

It doesn’t matter if your sins are like scarlet,
Just be soaked in  soberness and seek for serenity.

It doesn’t matter if you have flaws and falls…
Just have faith and focus to fight on and move forward.

It doesn’t matter if you are slow, just go steady.
Success is not all about speed but significance.

It doesn’t matter if your foundation is faulty,
Fix it if you can or find another ground and forge ahead.

It doesn’t matter if your foes are fiery and forceful;
Just make sure you have friends who are ever faithful.

It doesn’t matter if your forefathers failed;
Don’t be a fairytale for future folks…to read.

It doesn’t matter who is leading if you are still in the race,
Put your heart on winning and increase your pace.

The best is not always to be the first man standing but the last man standing!

Tears of the Past vs Treasures of Tomorrow

By Adeleke Adeite

Do not let any mortal ink WRITE off your future:
Everyone in life has a HISTORY of past failure.

Do not let critique crush your crude creativity,
Keep dancing to the drumbeat of dare-dexterity.

The seeds that gave birth to big trees were small;
So keep watering and weeding till you stand tall.

A man whose heart is full of the pains of the past
Will have a future framed with pictures of his past.

The good old days are radiant rays to remember,
But better days await those who do not slack or slumber.

Learn from the past and leave its pitiable pains;
Live in the present and lend from its golden grains.

Long for tomorrow, looking out for hope and help;
Do not let your yesterday make you yell or yelp.

Worry does not sack rainfall from the swollen skies;
It only brings more dust and cloud to soil the eyes.

The fear of the unknown cannot scare away shadows;
It tames today and taints the treasure of tomorrow.

Regrets over the past cannot bring a clear conscience;
It puts the man on reverse gear and stark silence.

Disappointments and denial can only knock down;
Discouragement and depression make him drown.

Everyone has a past, present and future…to fly or frown;
Only the courageous and consistent take the crown.

You cannot walk backwards and arrive at the future.
Do not chain your future, change past pictures.

A TAG IS NOT ENOUGH

By Adeleke Adeite

Your appearance attracts attention; your aptitude attracts appreciation but your attitude attracts affection!

No matter how painted a woman is; if she is not loaded, she will only be accepted today to be rejected tomorrow.

No matter how handsome a man is; if he is not honourable, he will only catch the eyes only to cloud the skies.

Real men women look for the right substance and not just romantic supplies.

Reasonable clients look for beautiful packs with the best package in them, no matter the price tag.

Your lovely lips may be keen at kissing but that will never keep a purpose-driven partner if your lies keep killing their kingdom.

It is not how well you can twist your tongue but how well you can tame it.

You may have the face of a flower but its fragrance will flare like flame if your inner features are not favourable.

Relevance is not about being photogenic but being futuristic. Your reputation is how well you relate as a role model or real model.

Your exquisite eyes may be good at winking, but if it does not see hope, it may never win the heart of a man with a wise world.

It is not about how well you can wink but the worth of who your wink wins.

A terrific tree is good, but no matter how beautiful its leaves, fruits and branches are, if they are not useful, the tree will be abandoned or cut off.

As you package your body to make it beautiful, polish your brain and make it bright; paint your behavior and make it blissful!

What makes treasures is not the titles and tags they carry but their true content!

Deeds are seeds

By ‘Femi Asu

Every day of our life is full of deeds;

Whether they are good or bad.

Our deeds are truly seeds;

They will eventually make us glad or sad.

Our deeds determine our destiny;

What we sow is what we reap.

Always put your deeds under close scrutiny

So that they will not make you weep.

The deeds you sow into people’s lives are not dead;

They have only gone to obey the law of nature.

Sooner or later they will grow and spread

To determine either your fortune or failure.

Just for their deeds;

Some people are being tolerated.

And because of their deeds;

Some are being celebrated.

What kind of deeds will you sow today?

Forgive their flaws or forfeit your flavour

By Adeleke Adeite

If someone has hurt or harmed you,
Let them go with their fist full of forgiveness.
Hold them in your heart and you’ll always go blue,
Blocking better things with bricks of bitterness.

If someone has broken and bruised your heart,
Pick up the pieces and fix them in the frame of faith.
Never allow the pains of the past rip your aura apart,
So you will not have a future full of woes and wrath.

Life is a pleasant platform with different performers;
They have different faces, formation and features.
Live to appreciate all that they have come to offer,
But choose the ones you’ll allow into your future…

He who fills his heart with the yelling of yesterday
Will have a future full of the pressures of the past.
To live in the timeless treasures of everyday…
You need to leave tough tears while they last.

…YOUR GAIN, NOT YOUR GOAL

By Adeleke AdeiteMoney

Money is a mighty medium, it is not a motivation.
Excellent employees work to learn and not just to earn.
Money is a super substance, it does not bring satisfaction,
Lo, some super rich men take solace in suicide.

Health is wealth but wealth may not mean health.
The rich also die untimely – no money magic.
Money can pay big bills, it can never buy breath;
Money provides good food, how about good mood?

So many bright and big brains are behind bars;
The mindless motion for money is their manacle.
So many sterling strikers were stripped of stars
Because they made paper their purpose’s pinnacle.

Money has both real and face value – so beware.
Not all sweet smiles spring from a sincere soul
Money, men and materials will one day flare;
It is good you have all as gains and not as your goal.
